BIOKÉ: A Vision Realized in Life Sciences

Koos Kranenborg: "Twenty years ago, I met my former colleague Kees during a biotech event in the Netherlands. Both of us stood tall, not just in stature but in ambition, ready to conquer the Life Sciences sector with our shared vision! Fueled by a passion for innovation and excellence, we set out to create a company that would revolutionize the industry with innovative, high-quality products, all backed by scientific knowledge and exceptional service.

With the scientific support of the visionary Prof. Johan den Dunnen from the LGTC (LUMC), BIOKÉ was born in April 2004 at the BioScience Park in Leiden, the Netherlands. Our mission was crystal clear: provide customers in the Benelux with outstanding products and service to enhance their Cloning and Sequencing workflows, offering cutting-edge software, kits, instruments, and enzymes. The 1^st innovative BIOKÉ supplier was Finnzymes, we introduced the new next-level proofreading enzyme - Phusion - into the Benelux market!

In 2005 we expanded our innovative product line to include items like the antibodies from Cell Signaling Technology (CST) and the Nucleic Acid Purification kits from MACHEREY-NAGEL. As the years flew by our company grew to include 15 high quality brands. Despite our explosive growth, an ever changing portfolio and the addition of fantastic team members, we stayed true to our roots, maintaining personal connections and delivering excellent service, the cornerstones of our company. Our customers loved our vibrant and fun spirit, from an instrument in an ice block to the interactive lab birds game, mouthwatering BIOKÉ cakes, and our distinctive bright orange lab coats.

In 2009, BIOKÉ joined forces with CST, a family-owned company from the United States, becoming their European subsidiary while proudly retaining our independent BIOKÉ brand. By 2011, we achieved another milestone by becoming the exclusive distributor of New England Biolabs (NEB) in the Benelux.

Today, as a dynamic business unit within CST, we offer an impressive portfolio of brands to our customers. Our reach has expanded beyond the Benelux market to include the British Isles, Germany, Austria, and the Scandinavian countries. What a journey it has been, and I am bursting with pride at how far we've come with this incredible team!"
